Major American law firm are looking for a BD manager to join their London office and develop and execute BD initiatives and marketing strategies, working collaboratively with partners and senior leadership as well as the US teams. The successful candidate will help plan, focus and direct business development activity, manage client-facing events, support client development and improve market visibility for the Firm’s London office.

A small selection of responsibilities will include:  

  • Drafting, editing, and proofreading pitches, responses to RFPs, submissions to directories and surveys, and other business development materials for existing and prospective clients in close coordination with the US BD teams to ensure consistency across offices.
  • Planning, organizing, managing, and executing client facing events.
  • Preparing research memos on current clients and new business targets, competitor activity, as well as market and industry trends.
  • Monitoring and reporting on relevant news, legal developments, industry trends and issues impacting current and prospective clients.
  • Maintaining and updating corporate practice text for the London office, deal descriptions and partner biographies in the Firm’s internal databases and across all business development materials, as well as on the Firm’s external website in coordination with the broader BD team.
  • Identifying potential new business and cross-selling opportunities, as well as conferences and other profile-raising opportunities in collaboration with the Firm’s broader BD and PR teams.
  • Collaborating with the London lawyers to develop and execute business development activities and strategies for new business opportunities, utilizing resources across the Firm’s offices.

It is essential that you have experience as a senior BD executive or BD manager from another leading law firm, expertise in capital markets, debt finance, corporate or banking work. They will not consider candidates without a legal background. The successful candidate will have a demonstrable knowledge of the global marketplace, as well as a strong understanding of general corporate terminology This is a new role and will offer considerable scope to make a real impact in the London office and excellent career development potential.
